Book Cover Design

Let’s face it: looks matter, first impressions are important, and we do judge books by their covers.

Your book’s cover is the first thing your potential reader sees. To start their reading experience off on the right foot, you need a cover that accurately represents your book, fits genre expectations, and stands out among the crowd, all while increasing sales.

What makes a good book cover?

Icon

Spot it

Eye-catching without being abrasive, confident without being cocky—the right balance will catch the shopper’s wandering eye.

Icon

Identify it

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and those thousand words travel at the speed of light. Genre conventions and expected elements quickly convey the book’s genre, theme, core message, and target audience, all at a glance.

Icon

Interest

It’s not enough to explain what it is. A great book cover also showcases why the reader needs to pick up this book. Thought-provoking, emotion-stirring, and curiosity-piquing!

Icon

Quality

People will assume the quality of the cover reflects on the quality of the writing. A high-quality cover will tell the reader that the book itself is high-quality, too. You’ve spent so much time and energy on this book—don’t wrap it in a cover someone threw together in five minutes!

Our Book Cover Design Process

We’ve put together an easy step-by-step process to get you a beautiful and effective cover without the hassle.

Sharing Your Vision:

  • Fill out a form to tell us about yourself, your book, and your goals.
  • Schedule a Cover Vision Call with one of our designers to discuss your ideal cover.

Design phase begins:

  • Our design team will work on three initial concepts based on the Cover Vision Call.
  • Thorough research will be done based on your genre, target audience, and competition to make sure your cover makes sense within your category, but breaks the mold just enough to stand out.
  • Within five to ten business days, you’ll have a cover draft in your inbox, depending on which package you purchased!

Refining your cover:

  • We’ll do whatever it takes to make sure you’re in love with your cover.
  • Once you’ve selected a design, we’ll refine it to perfection.

Getting ready for launch:

  • If your package includes a full print cover, you’ll receive a short follow-up form to provide the details we need for your spine and back cover.
  • Once everything’s finalized, we’ll prepare and deliver all the high-quality files you'll need to confidently launch your book.

Packages and what’s included

  • For full cover wraps: to create your full cover wrap (front, spine, and back), we’ll need a few final details from you: your book’s page count, trim size, paper type (white or cream), and whether the interior is black & white or color. These are super important to make sure the spine fits just right and everything prints perfectly!

Frequently asked questions

How long does the process take?

Projects typically wrap in 2–3 weeks, depending on how many revisions are needed, the complexity of changes, and how quickly the author provides feedback.

This timeline refers specifically to the front cover design. The biggest variable tends to be on the author’s side—some authors respond within a day or two, while others may need more time between rounds.

If your package includes a full print cover (spine and back), we’ll complete that once your book has been professionally formatted, as we’ll need final page count and trim size details. This step may extend the overall timeline, depending on where you are in your publishing process.

How many revisions do I get?

Each service includes up to three revisions. However, if you want to purchase additional revisions beyond that, we can do so.

Do I need to provide the ISBN?

Authors typically provide the ISBN.

What images and fonts will be used on my book cover?

This will be discussed during the Cover Vision Call. If you want original illustrations, purchase the Premium Package.

Will AI be used on my book cover design?

AI may be used only if absolutely necessary and to support—not replace—the creative design process.

Does this include back cover description writing or author bio writing?

No, but you can add that onto your order! We can edit your back cover description or author bio for $30 each, or $50 for both. If you prefer us to write one or both for you, reach out to us for a custom quote.

What can I expect after purchase?

After purchase, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to your design intake form. Once submitted, we’ll reach out within 2 business days to schedule your Cover Vision Call.
