Wandering Blog Submission Guidelines

The Wandering Blog is your one-stop shop for all things writing, editing, literature, and publishing! From grammar discussions to world-building guides to book reviews, we have everything a budding author and word nerd could want in a blog.

And now, you can be a part of it, too!

What to Submit

We are currently accepting blog posts on the subjects of writing, editing, literature, publication, and just about anything to do with the world of books!

We’re looking for:

  • Nonfiction articles of 300 to 3000 words on subjects that are helpful or educational to authors (for example, an article discussing what a semicolon is, how to use it, ways it is commonly misused, etc.).
  • Book reviews of 300 to 2000 words that review popular and/or recently published books of any genre.

We’re NOT looking for:

  • Fiction or poetry - if you have fiction or poetry to submit, try our anthology!
  • Reviews or advertisements for your own books/writing.

How to Submit:

  • Work should be double spaced and in Times New Roman, 12 point font. Work should be submitted as a PDF or Word document. We are unable to accept submissions in any other form (Pages file, Scrivener file, etc.).
  • We accept submissions via our Google form. The form is at the bottom of this page.
  • Not following our submission guidelines may lead to automatic rejection.
  • There is no fee to submit to our blog.
  • You may submit once every 4 months.

Other Details

  • Please familiarize yourself with our blog’s voice and style and verify your subject has not already been covered before submitting.
  • Writing must be fully original and your own work.
  • We are, unfortunately, unable to publish all submissions. If your article is not accepted for publication, do not take it as a personal rejection of your writing skill—it is likely your piece simply did not fit our blog for one reason or another. We encourage everyone to try again with another article.
  • We are not able to provide personal feedback for every rejection.
  • We only publish work that has not been published elsewhere. This includes publication on your personal website, social media, or self-publication.
  • We strive to get back to all submitters within 6 to 8 weeks, but we sometimes will take longer. We will reply to every submission.
  • Payment: We are unable to pay for work accepted to our blog, though we hope to pay authors in the future.
  • Publication: Upon acceptance, blog posts will be edited by a member of the WWM team. They will then be put in our publication queue to be published on the Wandering Blog. Typically, posts are published within 2-3 months, but they may take longer depending on our queue.
  • We accept simultaneous submissions, but if your piece is accepted elsewhere, email us ASAP to withdraw your submission.
  • We cannot accept any work that includes copyrighted song lyrics or uncited quotes.
  • We do not accept work that has been AI-generated. The use of programs like Grammarly are okay to check spelling and grammar, but all work should be original and written by the author, not by a program. If we suspect a piece has been written in part or in full by ChatGPT or another similar program, it will not be chosen for publication.
  • We will consider work that uses strong language or discusses controversial themes, however, we will not publish work that is discriminatory or pornographic in nature, or which may not reflect well on WWM as a company.
  • We accept work internationally, but we can only accept work that has been written in English and follows the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.
  • Wandering Words Media requires non-exclusive first publication rights and incidental promotional rights. We retain the unrestricted right to publish selected articles in print and online and in any relevant promotional material.
